Senior Spotlight: Joesyah Johnson
Joesyah Johnson is a senior at Indiahoma High School and plays point guard for the basketball team, runs track and cross country.
“When I was younger, I was like four. I had a mini hoop, and I was trying to dunk on it. I couldn't dunk, and ever since that day, I've been wanting to play basketball and get better at it, so I could,” he said. “Well, back then, it was to dunk, but now it's just to get better.”
Johnson also competes in esports.
“They brought it here like three years ago, and they needed people to play, so me and my friends, we thought it'd be fun to do it, and we all joined Fortnite,” he said. “And we had Call of Duty in the beginning. Recently, I've been playing Fortnite with my friends.”
One of Johnson’s favorite activities is being a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
His greatest accomplishment is becoming a better person.
“Becoming a better man…I feel like everything I work at, everything I work at will pay off one day, and my personality, and just what I want to do in life,” Johnson said.
He’s going to miss the community he’s in now.
“I'm going to miss school. I know you can socialize at college, but I love socializing with these people,” Johnson said. “The community's really wonderful, and it's really homey here, and I think I'll miss that the most.”
He keeps up with his heritage through the community and his family.
“A lot of people in my family…go to powwows, and I enjoy going to those as well, and we kind of live around a Native American community, and I feel like you can learn from everyone…,” Johnson said. “And once a year, well, it's not just once a year, but there [are] multiple different festivals that they have at the Native communities, like certain tribes, and we have the Comanche Fair one here, and I love and enjoy going to that one because you can learn a lot about your culture and keep in touch with it.”
He plans to attend Southwestern Christian University and run cross country and track.
Johnson also aims to get a degree in business management and eventually open his own business.
