Walters Service Club Honors Veterans at Powwow
On Saturday, November 8, the Walters Service Club honored Lyndon Wahkinney and Joseph Chebahtah at the club’s 2025 Veterans Day Powwow, held at Watchetaker Hall.
President of the Walters Service Club, Mari Lavatai, said they honor those who have served in the military.
“It's an honor for us to honor our veterans that have served in the military, whether it be present or the past,” she said.
Lavatai looks forward to the powwow every year as well as homecoming.
“It's always good to see all the veterans come to our powwow, and they not only come to this powwow or other powwows,” she said. “I see veterans at all the powwows.”
Lavatai said she was glad to see everyone who attended.
“We had a big turnout. That's something that we always have every year. So, I look forward to it every year,” she said. “It's a lot of hard work, but I enjoy it.”
Lavatai’s mom is an original member of the Walters Service Club, and her sister, Eva Asenap, has been the treasurer. Asenap will give up her role but will remain a member.
