Senior Spotlight: Rowyn Fite

Lookeba-Sickles High School senior Rowyn Fite is a point guard for the basketball team and a shortstop for the softball team, and enjoys both sports.

“I started playing T-ball when I was, I think, five, and so I've played ever since then, and I've loved it ever since I started,” she said.

Fite began playing basketball at the YMCA in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

“And I've played a lot of travel basketball. When I was like 11 or 12, I was on three different basketball teams and two softball teams,” she said. “I was always busy, but that was what made me happy.”

Fite said the basketball and softball teams have the same girls playing.

“I love it. I love this team with all my heart,” she said. “I wouldn't want anybody else to play with. I think us being so close and so small, it keeps us a close team. And I think that makes us better is being so close.”

Fite has had several accolades throughout her career, including Oklahoma’s Top 100 Players.

“My sophomore year, I was named MVP of the Caddo County Basketball Tournament, and then we won it that year, too, I was at Mountain View…at the time,” she said. “And then we just got done with state this year, we were semifinalists. So that's probably one up there, too, because state week is always my favorite week. And then I was also named to All-State in fast pitch. And so that's those are probably my top. And then All-Tournament Team for the Caddo County, my freshman, junior, and then All-Tournament this year, too.”

Fite is a part of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the class vice president, and works to put on homecoming, which is one of Fite’s favorite weeks.

“I wanted to be some sort of leader for the class. And I thought that was probably the best way I could help out,” she said.

Fite’s going to miss the friends she made. She has all A’s and will play for Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

“I moved a couple years ago, and I thought it was going to be like the worst thing ever because I'm a junior. And you don't want to move your junior year of high school. You already have everything planned out. But I just that year, I was like, ‘God has a plan, and he has greater plans.’ And he did,” she said. “He brought me my best friends here. And I think that's going to be what I'll miss the most is them. And then another thing: my dad being my coach. Like, I'm going to be three hours away from him next year, and him coaching me and pushing me to be my best is definitely why I'm the player I am today. And my mom, being my biggest supporter, is another thing I'll miss. I know she'll be at all the games she can next year, but it'll still…she won't make as many probably.”

Fite plans to major in health science and become a physical therapist.

“I want to stay somewhere around the sports area, help athletes. I don't think I can really leave it because I love sports so much that I don't think I would be ready to just let it go,” she said. “And my mom's a PTA, so it kind of goes hand in hand there.”

Fite enjoys going to the lake with her grandparents and keeps in touch with her heritage through stories from elders.
