Senior Spotlight: Gage Elam
Gage Elam is a senior at Elgin High School and plays middle linebacker and is a running back on the football team.
“When I was little, my brother played, and I just liked watching him, and that's what made me want to play,” he said.
Elam also wrestles and is in track.
“My uncle was the wrestling coach, so I wrestled since I was younger, and I just stuck with it up till now,” he said.
Elam’s highlight was winning the state championship in football last year.
“Amazing, yeah, I don't know how to explain it other than like it just…the whole town was there and it was just nice to win it,” he said.
Elam is going to miss stepping on the field.
“I don't know, I just love when we run out of that field house, just looking up at everyone in the stands, and yeah, it's just fun,” he said. “I'm going to miss it.”
Elam said he’s going to miss Friday night lights and seeing his friends at school.
He has a 3.9 GPA and plans to go to college.
“I want to take criminal justice, and then out of that, I want to go and be a game warden,” Elam said.
He said many of his hobbies are outdoors.
“I like hunting, fishing and…I would like to protect the animals and stuff that you know, over like poaching, all that. I just like to go and be a part of that,” Elam said.
As for Elam, asking questions about his heritage is important.
“My dad and papa and stuff on their side just ask them questions and stuff, and I like to go to Comanche fair and watch the powwow and everything, that's always fun,” he said.
Elam also knows how to speak some basic Comanche.
