Churches Gather for Annual Prayer Breakfast
Comanche Nation Prayer Breakfast took place on Thursday, December 11, at Watchetaker Hall, where churches received their Christmas donations.
Secretary/Treasurer Benny Tahmahkera said it’s a great feeling to see the Comanche people coming together.
“Kind of start off the holiday season, of course, we started in Thanksgiving, but for Christmas it's a special time,” he said. “I think we have approximately 22 churches represented. They have some of their members that come as well. Everybody's invited to come, all the members of the church, and you know it's a good.”
Tahmahkera enjoyed the day’s performances.
“It's fun to see a lot of the children come out here and singing the Comanche songs. It's good to see our Comanche princesses come out, and they did the Lord's Prayer,” he said. “We also have Prevention and Recovery come out, and it was good to hear them come out here and sing and kind of hear a little bit more about their background of how they're still coming into the community. They go to different churches throughout the year, but it was nice to see them come up here, and they sang about four songs, and it was really touching to hear them come out and participate today.”
Tahmahkera said it’s a good time to get together.
“It's good to be festive in the spirit, getting ready for Christmas, the New Year's coming up, and to see all our people come out here and enjoy breakfast, share some sermon, and it's always a good time to get together,” he said.
Tahmahkera said a lot of people attend the event, and they look forward to it every year.
“Anytime I can help assist our communities with our churches, you know, it's a good thing, and I think you know our tribe feels like that, our people feel like that, and for us to come together,” he said. “It's like I said, it's pretty special that we can all come together and enjoy this time, this day.”
Tahmahkera wishes everyone a happy holiday and hopes to make next year better.
He wanted to thank Jennifer Lee, Shandel Wesaw and Roxie Tenequer for the decorating and hard work.
