Private Eli Hosetosavit, Comanche

Killed in Action on August 1, 1944

PVT Hosetosavit was living in Otero County, New Mexico when he was drafted on August 12, 1942. The 635th departed the United States in December 1943, and were garrisoned in southern England for extensive training. They landed on Utah Beach on June 30, 1944. Company B was in support of the 1st Infantry Division. The 634th took part in the initial phase of the Allied breakthrough west of St. Lo - during this drive, which fighting the elite German 8th Army, the "Falaise Pocket" was formed. The unit "after action report" states "Company B took up direct fire positions after moving from the vicinity of St. Dennis le Gast to Les Rues, France and were strafed and bombed by German aircraft. They also received heavy artillery fire. Two enlisted men were killed by the bomb and shell fragments." One of the enlisted men was PVT Hosetosavit. He was buried at United States Military Cemetery near Maricny, France until his remains were reburied on Post Oak Cemetery, Indiahoma, Oklahoma in January, 1949. PVT Hosetosavit will forever be 25 years old (DOB April 26, 1919).
