Comanche Nation TransportationThe Comanche Nation Transportation Department is an integral part of the Comanche Nation government. It was established to provide services to tribal people within our service area in need of accessible and safe roadways and bridges. Service area is Caddo, Comanche, Cotton Counties. The Indian Reservation Roads program, funded through the Federal Highway Administration, assists tribes in the improvement of the roads in their tribal areas, and the tribe administers these improvements under the Indian Reservation Roads (IRR) program and the IRR Bridge Program. The tribe identifies these sections of roadways as an integral part of the road system serving tribal members. Also, the Tribe wishes to incorporate these sections of roadways among a list of tribal routes identified for possible improvements. The Department and the Tribe entered into cooperative agreements to accomplish the improvement of roads and/or bridges used by tribal members. The Tribe and the Department understand that the ownership and maintenance shall continue to rest with the Department and that the Tribe may contribute to the improvement of these sections of roadways and bridges at some point in the future. |
The Transportation Department began in 1992 to address an unmet need in the tribal community for more accessible, safe roadways and bridges. Through the diligent efforts and perseverance of the Comanche Nation Government, today various miles of road and twenty-three bridges have made daily travel for tribal members less hazardous. |
