Molds have the potential to cause health problems. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions), irritants and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash (dermatitis). Allergic reactions to mold are common. They can be immediate or delayed. Molds can also cause asthma attacks in people with asthma who are allergic to mold. In addition, mold exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of both mold- allergic and non-allergic people. Symptoms other than the allergic and irritant types are not commonly reported as a result of inhaling mold. Research on mold and health effects is on going. Who should do the cleanup? If there has been a lot of water damage, and/or mold growth covers more than 10 sq. ft. you may want to hire a contractor. (Mold Remedation) Make sure the contractor is experience cleaning up mold. Indoor Air Quality - Air Duct CleaningDust aggravates breathing problems, causes burning eyes, itching skin, and makes allergy problems worse. Health agencies, doctors, and researchers claim that airborne dust may be one of the worst causes of health-related problems. Contamination builds up over time in your air system. This build-up will reduce the efficiency of your air system, shortens it's operating life, and continues to circulate the contaminants throughout your home. The solution is a thorough air system decontamination preformed by The Comanche Nation Environmental Department. There are several steps to air duct decontamination, the first being debis removal. Your system will require additional steps for a full decontamination. This includes cleaning the air handler and applying sanitizers and sealers (if needed) to the duct system. If you feel you or your family can benefit from this, please feel free to call (580) 497 3754 or (580) 492 3734. Click here to find a Mold Expert at www.findamoldexpert.com.
